Venice pays tribute to an extraordinary early 20th century figure, Marchesa Luisa Casati (1881-1957), who lived from 1910 to 1924 in Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, later purchased by another outstanding female collector, Peggy Guggenheim. The entiry city of Venice was the stage for her masked parties and theatrical outings. Her extravagant appearance and eccentric lifestyle soon transformed her into a celebrity.

Obsessed by the idea of becoming a “living work of art”, the Marchesa was the inspiring muse of a lot of artists, among them Giovanni Boldini, Kees van Dongen, Alberto Martini, Giacomo Balla, Fortunato Depero, Leon Bakst, Man Ray, Cecil Beaton.

Contemporay artists as T.J. Wilcox, Peter Lindberg, Paolo Roversi, Anne-Karin Furunes, Filippo di Sambuy and Francesco Vezzoli present new works inspiring tothe Marchesa.
